Angela Boyd 4C

Greetings Fourth Grade Families,

Hotep, my name is Mama Angie and I will be your child’s fourth grade facilitator.  I have been an early childhood educator for 20 years, yes, 20 years!  I was an assistant director and preschool teacher for five years.  I taught an inclusive headstart class for three years.  I have taught kindergarten for six years, as well as teaching second grade for five years.  This is my second year at Sankofa and my second year teaching fourth grade.  I earned my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Holy Family University and my Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Capella University.  I am married with three children and a house full of animals.  Two of my children currently attend Sankofa.

This year the children will be reviewing skills from last year and be challenged to progress even further.  Last year Sankofa launched a new literacy (Wit and Wisdom) and math (Eureka) curriculum.  This year we will delve further into those curriculums to increase student knowledge, as well as their thinking and communication skills.  Throughout the year you will hear a lot about SBA to HEKA, which is a community based learning experience each grade participates in.  There will be some projects that the children will be required to complete at home.  I make every attempt to have the projects be a fun learning experience, as well as having plenty of time to complete them.  ALL PROJECTS COUNT AS A MAJOR GRADE.  There will also be homework every Monday – Friday.  ALL HOMEWORK SHOULD BE CHECKED BY AN ADULT AND SIGNED NIGHTLY.  HOMEWORK ALSO COUNTS AS A MAJOR GRADE.  The scholars will have Physical Education on Mondays and Tuesdays and Art on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Scholars in fourth grade will have literacy with their homeroom teacher on a daily basis.  However, scholars in 4B and 4C will be combined for math, science and social studies with me while Sister Katina assists Kindergarten through third grade on their literacy skills.
I look forward to working with you and your scholars.
