"Amandla Ngawethu"
The Power Is Ours!
Happy Blacks in Excellence Month!!!
We are fortunate to be in a learning community where we celebrate the accomplishments of our people on a daily basis, however, we will take this opportunity to celebrate the lives of our great ancestors, our present leaders, and those "Hidden Figures" we have yet to learn about.

We will continue studying and applying what we are learning to our essential question of freedom while making connections and gaining a true understanding of
SBA to HEKA.... Deep Thought to Righteous Action.

As we prepare for the PSSA this spring, I am encouraging all families to work with our young people on daily liberation work, check notebooks and book bags daily as well as our class website for PSSA information, assignments, liberation work, and helpful websites.

Our theme for this year is
"Amandla Ngawethu," a South African (Zulu & Xhosa) expression that means, "The Power is Ours!" Indeed, the power is within us as individuals and a school community to give our
"Good, Better, Best" .....All Day Long.

We want to welcome back our new and returning families to the
Bambara-Baker Nation, affectionately named after ancestor Ella Baker.
I am Mama Nikki Estrada, the literacy facilitator for grade 6, named after the Bambara people mainly of Mali,West Africa.
I bring a wealth of experience, spanning over 20 years in educating young people, particularly in middle school. I have love for teaching young people to have an appreciation and respect for reading and writing.
We will continue to work diligently to develop and strengthen our reading and writing skills on a daily basis.

It is essential and expected that our scholars incorporate studying, reading and writing into their daily routine during their homework time outside of the classroom environment.

Our goal is to make reading and writing purposeful. It means that our writing must be connected to real world issues and bring about social change.

The middle years are critical in the academic lives of our scholars as we continue the arduous work of preparing them for the future.  It is expected that all of our scholars perform at their highest potential.

Our webpage contains resources available to scholars and families. Please visit our 6th grade webpage frequently for updates, helpful links, weekly liberation (homework) assignments, projects, etc.

Asante Sana
