ELL- Sis Brenda

Sis Brenda

Hotep from Sankofa’s English Language Learner (ELL) Facilitator!

This wonderful school year is well underway, and I wanted to take a moment and send out a brief note introducing myself to you, and letting you know a little bit about the instruction we have planned for your child.  I will be working with all of our scholars in grades Kindergarten through 12, here at our beautiful building.

Sankofa’s ELL Program is designed to give support to students in our school whose first language is not English. The goal of this program is to help our students by developing and then further strengthening their English skills in order to be successful in the mainstream classroom and with their peers.  It is aligned and supported through with the PA English Language Proficiency standards as well as the Can Do descriptors and the four domains of the English language.  Ultimately, these students will be able to effectively listen, speak, read, and write fluently in English.

In order to adequately address the diverse needs of your English Language Learner, I will be working both inside and outside of their classrooms for a set period of time each week. I will provide a combination of direct English language instruction, and content-based instruction designed to boost vocabulary and comprehension skills in the various academic content areas, such as Literacy, Mathematics, Social Studies, the Sciences, and the Arts.

I look forward to working with you this year to provide our children with the very best of education opportunities both in school and at home.  Your participation and interest are valued, so please feel free to contact me with any questions or ideas that you might have.
